To give young people a future in which they can aspire, thrive and achieve:
✅ Being Human – kindness, honesty, empathy, courage, gratitude, and strength of character
✅ Connection – building relationships that inspire and uplift
✅ Enterprise – encouraging initiative, responsibility, and self-reliance
Our movement is based on the principle that every individual has the capacity to make a difference in their lives and communities.
As Margaret Mead famously said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
The challenges faced by young people today - lack of opportunities, mental health struggles, and fear of violence -can be overcome with the right tools and mindset.
🟢 Unlocking Potential – helping individuals discover their strengths and unique contributions
🟡 Leadership – enabling Champions to create impact within their families, workplaces, and communities
🔵 Human Stories – recognising that personal stories have the power to change the world
🟠 Understanding – the foundation of the Champions programme is deep self-awareness and empathy
🏡 Places Matter – we create spaces where meaningful experiences are shared and values are built
💰 Enterprise & Financial Independence – promoting skills that help individuals generate and manage income, creating a future of self-sufficiency
At its core, the Champions philosophy is about strengthening human agency - the ability to make choices, act, and shape one's own future.
Champions is based on seven core principles that lead to relationships of trust:
We focus on three key processes:
✔️ Understanding Self & Others
✔️ Managing Relationships & Conflict Resolution
✔️ Building & Maintaining Personal Capacity
Champions Six-Step Process
The Champions programme follows a six-step process, which can be taken as a full programme or in specific components. It is designed to ignite a lifelong journey of learning and growth.
Enterprise & Employability
One of the key outcomes of the Champions programme is employability and enterprise.
We equip individuals with both human skills (resilience, leadership, and teamwork) and technical skills to thrive in the workforce or start their own ventures.
Champions is backed by world-class methodologies, including:
🔹 Mattering – ensuring people feel valued and make valued contributions. (Isaac & Ora Prilleltensky)
🔹 Hope Action Theory – empowering individuals to shape their future. (Spencer Niles, Norman Amundson, Hyung Joon Yoon)
🔹 Belbin Team Roles – creating high-performing individuals and teams. (Meredith Belbin)
🔹 Nonflict – transforming conflict into productive outcomes. (Amir Kfir & Stephen Hecht)
🔹 Peace & Values Education – breaking cycles of violence by strengthening empathy and responsibility. (Aegis Trust)
Champions isn’t just a programme - it’s a movement of Champions who transform lives.
Champions is about the power of personal stories to inspire.
We all stand on the shoulders of others. This is my story - and how Champions began.
In 1987, as a 19-year-old in Nottinghamshire, UK, I had the privilege of meeting a remarkable family: Marina and Eddie Smith, along with their two sons, Stephen and James. Little did I know that this encounter would shape the course of my life.
The Smith family had transformed an old farmhouse into a place of reflection and education. That space would become the UK National Holocaust Centre, which opened in 1995. But their vision didn’t stop there.
A Legacy of Impact
Over the years, I witnessed and became part of an extraordinary movement:
A Life-Changing Decision
My role in this deepened in 2004, when I made the life-altering decision to leave my management career in road construction to fully dedicate myself to supporting this mission.
After some 20 years of this remarkable journey, for me and my family, Champions is my desire to share this with others.
Why Champions?
Through this journey, I saw the power of human agency - the ability of individuals to shape their own future. Whether in the UK, Rwanda, or beyond, I witnessed the transformative impact of education, leadership, and resilience.
Champions was born out of this experience:
✔️ Empowering individuals to discover their strengths and take action
✔️ Building resilience in communities
✔️ Creating opportunities for young people to shape their own futures
Champions is about about you, about all of us - because each one of us can be champions and create a movement of thriving, prosperous individuals who change the world for the better.
Champions comprises proven expertise in human development from across the world with a commitment to give back and support others.
Champions is a company registered in the UK. It is a for-profit, for-purpose company. This is to create a self-sustaining model that is scaleable. This is because we see there is a bottom-line benefit from strengthening humanity - greater creativity, teamwork and resilience. This also means we are kept on our toes, demonstrating tangible value to our customers and partners.
